Sensational, sultry and sophisticated, there is no other way to describe the designs of Aganovich & Yung. The new Spring/Summer 2006 Collection ‘Let’s Murder the Moonshine’ launched at an off-schedule event during London Fashion Week perfectly projected the pair’s talent and love of contrast and diversity.
The graduates from St Martins have compiled an inspiring collection drawing from a range of themes including the Bauhaus movement, Italian Futurism and Expressionism. Made up entirely of ruby red, black and white, the delicate silks and satins offset splashes of leather producing a breathtaking feel of playful luxury.
My favourite piece from the whole collection has to be the glistening white dress with a vertical slash neckline allowing a subtle peep of flesh combined with a high collar, softened by feminine pleated sleeves. The best pieces are the ones that make the wearer feel like a film star and I could definitely stride down a red carpet in this. Sensuous, stylish but still with a sense of fun and zest for life.
The rest of the collection is just as fabulous. Suggestively bare backs and asymmetric cuts project opulence, with flowing capes adding an air of mystery. Accentuated high waistline skirts combined with masculine shirts convey a further diversity which is both fluid and graceful.
Aganovich & Yung’s designs are for the real woman and their pieces aim to make the wearer proud of their body by emphasising curves rather than hiding them. Their clothes are sleek, elegant and defiant against the case of the more flesh the better.
This design duo are definitely rising stars in the world of fashion. The palette of contrasting colours ensures their creations strike the observer with both power and delicate beauty. If they continue to produce collections on a par with this one there will be no stopping Aganovich and Yung.
