Rosie Duncan puts a spring in your step

Daffodils are peeping through, the evenings are getting lighter and spring is just around the corner. Thank goodness. What better time to have a pre-spring clean and invest in a few staple wardrobe essentials to get you through the next season?

White is right according to Dolce and Gabana, and who are we to argue? Forget the muted earthy tones of winter and clean up your act in sharp white pieces.

The white shirt is forever the essential item of a lady’s wardrobe, and it is set to burst back on the spring scene. A well-fitting shirt can be worn under V neck cashmere, over a pretty lace cami, dressed down with well-worn faded denim or up with a kooky tie and pencil skirt. Endlessly versatile and effortlessly sexy – a crisp white wise investment.

If romantic is your style, you’ll be pleased to know that the dress is making a comeback. OK, so it never made a definite exit from our daily attire, but this season anything goes. Think smart shirt dresses, floating babydoll numbers and elegant shift designs. From brash bold patterns to plain and simple, it’s your choice. But make sure it’s ladylike and you’ll turn heads this season.

Turn to Chanel if you’re still looking for inspiration. Models swept onto the catwalk for their spring/summer show donning delicate lace and kooky crochet. Transforming granny-chic into delicious desirability, the label shows us how to carry it off with sex appeal. Skimpy skin-skimming selections of white and cream hues also cropped up in Valentino, Michael Kors and Proenza Schouler.

Set off your fresh new look with overstated accessories. Don’t be mistaken for a shrinking violet - carry a bag dripping in detail, a pair of Audrey Hepburn-style sunglasses and add a splash of colour with a pair of bright wedges.

Divine.
