Isabelle Silvestre introduces State of Undress.
State of Undress is a luxury lingerie and swimwear company based in London. Known for unique prints, excellent quality, and innovative shapes, State of Undress is becoming one of London’s most sought-after lingerie brands.
State of Undress was founded 3 years ago by two Canadians, Emma Cheevers and Alexandra Suhner, shortly after their graduation at Central Saint Martins College in London. The concept was about creating beautiful, unusual lingerie and loungewear with unique, exclusive prints designed in collaboration with some of London’s best print designers.
Three years later, and State of Undress is being is stocked in some of the world’s best department stores and boutiques, and being feature in magazines and newspapers worldwide. The bras are made at one of France’s finest lingerie manufacturers. “The bra fit is so important, that is why we spent 2 years developing and perfecting our shape” says Emma Cheevers. But it is not only the fit of the bra that is spectacular, the spring summer 2006 collection has ribbon strapped balcony bras made in the finest silk crepe satins and printed with incredibly detailed tapestries of butterflies, birds, bees, mushrooms, and flowers. If the feminine print is not to your liking, then the graphic waterlillies print works stunningly with the Chastity knicker or Ludivine knicker, which both come complete with working lock and key.
State of Undress’ signature shape is the Isabelle knicker. The panty forms knots at the sides, and is fully lined in silk satin. Not only does it look stunning, but feels amazing when worn. The bias-cut top, Loulou, comes with a removable ribbon belt, which, at 4m long, wraps around the wait several times, creating a romantic yet slightly bondage look. Their best selling item is the Celeste eyemask, which is also fully lined in silk satin, and guarantees a good night sleep.
The prints come in a variety of colours. There is always a feminine pink option, but this season, the waterlillies print comes in a classic black, cream and tan option, as well as a periwinkle blue, with accents of pinks and lilacs. It matches perfectly with the detailed Seascape print, an underwater landscape with fish and coral in hues of blue and rose.
“Our customer a woman who wants lingerie that is individual, fits well, and feels amazing against the skin. She is also the type of woman who has a lingerie wardrobe, certain pieces for certain uses.” explains Alexandra, “we are trying to educate people that wearing nice lingerie every day is the way forward.”
The other side to the brand is the loungewear, “We made a kimono robe that originally retailed for £550. When it sold out immediately, we realized our customer is not afraid to spend money on a product that has inherent value” explains Emma. The robe is 100% silk satin, and completely self-lined. “It feels like double cream against your skin, and now with the pillows and eyemasks to go with it, you can create a boudoir in your bedroom.”
Wearing fabulous lingerie and creating a boudoir in your bedroom…maybe not an everyday event for all of us,..but certainly something we can all aspire to do once in a while.
